It has been a busy spring for the Warren Wilson Bike Team. Team members have been enjoying the spring weather, participating in a weekly training ride every Thursday, hitting off campus trails, honing their dirt jumping skills, and doing trail maintenance. The team also had its yearly party at coach Art Shuster's house several weeks ago to celebrate another successful season and Art's eight years of coaching.

Several riders are gearing up for race season. Team members Matt Williams, David Bishop, and Tallulah Winquist have been gearing up for major spring campaigns. Matt has been throwing down at the weekly Asheville group ride (on the road), David has been sticking to his mountain bike, and Tallulah has been doing some long rides in Pisgah to build endurance and technical skills. David made his professional debut at the Tsali Serc race last weekend, but was forced to DNF after snapping his rear derailleur. Look for more updates as the spring progresses.

The team also completed a trail day at Alexander Park last Sunday. Thanks to the work of nearly a dozen Wilson riders, a prospective student, and a few local mountain bikers, nearly a half-mile of brand new single track was completed. The new sections connect several older trails to create a new roller coaster loop. The team celebrated in the afternoon by setting down the first tire tracks on the new trails. The verdict, they're lots of fun.

With a number of off campus rides, weekly training rides, and regional races still to come before graduation in May, the Wilson bike team has a busy spring ahead. Stay tuned for more updates and photos, and check out the new blog for frequent musings by team members.
