Asheville, NC – In thrilling style the Warren Wilson men's soccer team got its first win of the year in the team's home opener against Crown College, 3-0.
The Fighting Owls first goal came from an own goal giving the Owls a 1-0 lead. The second goal came off an assist from Lincoln, NE native Zack Ross as he hit Williamsburg, VA native Enrique Timas giving the Owls a 2-0 lead.
In the second half, Enrique Timas found the net again as he received an assist from Gastonia, NC native Allen Salazar. This gave the Fighting Owls all the cushion they would need as they went on to defeat the royal crusaders 3-0.
"We exploited the flanks well tonight," says Head Coach Mike Kerr. "Everyone showed really well especially Enrique, Pat, and Joia."
Former WWC national champion basketball player Pat Albright kept a clean net for the Fighting Owls not allowing a goal and tallying up seven saves. Enrique Timas led all scorers with 2 goals, having five shots and 2 shots on goal.
"I was proud of how the guys reacted to our loss this past Saturday," comments Coach Kerr. "They played with-in themselves and tactfully did what I asked them to do. We moved the ball around, kept possession well and played as a team. We deserved to win the game."
It was the first webcast for Warren Wilson College. All home men's and women's soccer games are available to view online.
The fighting owls are on the road for their next three contests. Their next game will be at Huntingdon College on August 30th at 5:00pm.
