GAINSVILLE, F.L. --
In the SECCC Conference Championships, the Warren
Wilson Mountain bike team took part in the University of Florida's Super
Cool Mountain Bike Race this past weekend. With the results combined
throughout the season the Warren Wilson Owls finished in an impressive
first place in the SECCC conference. Allison Jones took 1st in the
Women's A. Congratulations to all the riders on a great regular season.
Next up the team will compete in the Mountain Bike Nationals in Angel
Fire, New Mexico on October 19th.
Saturday kicked off with three events, the Dual Slalom, Short Track Cross Country, and a Time Trial. In the Dual Slalom Ryan Smith took 1st place in the Men's B with a time of 28.3. Mike Flynn took 7th in the Men's A with a time of 28.7 and Elias Grant finished in 10th at 29.1. On the women's side Allison Jones took 2nd place with a time of 32.2, Lillian Hacker took 7th and Alessia Faverio took 8th.
In the Short Track Cross Country, Mike Flynn led the way for the Owls placing 8th in the "A" race while Allison Jones and Lillian Hacker took 5th and 6th place on the women's side. In the time trial Ryan Smith and Robin Crandall took 5th and 6th place. On the women's side it was Jones in 2nd, Hacker in 3rd and Faverio in 6th.
In the Cross Country event on Sunday the women led the way in the "A" race with Allison Jones taking 3rd place. Lilian Hacker took 5th and Alessia Faverio took 10th. In the Men's A Cross Country Race Ryan Smith took 8th and Mike Flynn took 10th. Robin Crandall also competed in the Men's A and he placed 18th and John Siff 19th. Robert Leeson took 22nd. In the Men's B Cross Country Elias Grant took 10th.
What a great race by all the riders! With all the effort of each rider the Owls secured 1st place in the SECCC Conference which consists of the following 12 teams:
- Warren Wilson
- Union College
- Mars Hill
- Milligan College
- North Georgia
- Kennesaw State
- Western Carolina
- King College
