The Warren Wilson Mountain Bike Team competed in its third wet and wild
race in a row this past weekend in Brevard, NC. The tracks were muddy
and hills steep, but the team came through with bright spirits and
dirty smiles. Nina led the weekend with a 2nd place finish in Downhill
(DH) followed by Alec's 7th place finish in Dual Slalom (DS) and Mike's
8th place finish in DH.
The Downhill race this weekend was steep and very muddy; the corners are best described by 6 inch thick peanut butter. For the women Nina took 2nd, Ileana came in 4th followed by Becca in 5th, and Tallulah (Vader) in 6th. The men were led by Mike with a 8th place finish, followed by Phil in 13th, Alec in 17th, Moses in 18th, Linden 20th, Josh in 23rd.
The Short Track (ST) was a wonderful spectator sport this weekend with a 15 ft mud hill that put most riders face first at the bottom. Linden led the men with a 9th place finish. Close behind was Alec in 11th, Josh in 16th, and Aaron (Meat Locker) Peet in 24th. For the women it was Nina in 5th, Elisa in 7th, Vader (Tallulah) in 8th, Ileana in 9th, Becca in 11th, and Aubrey in 12th. Freshman Molly Mistr came to her first race this weekend and finished 4th in B's.
The Dual Slalom race was also unbelievably muddy, leaving every racer looking like they partook in a fraternity mud wrestling contest. The women had strong finishes consisting of Ileana's 4th place, Nina's 5th, Elisa's 6th, and Aubrey's 9th. The men were led by Alec sledding his way into 7th place, followed by Moses in 24th, Mike in 27th, Josh in 29th, Phil in 31st, and Linden in 32nd.
The Cross Country (XC) was Sunday. The skies cleared up and the course dried out making it a much more pleasant day of racing. The Men were led by Linden's 9th place finish, Alec's 11th, Phil's 15th, Josh's 18th, and Arlo's 25th place finish. Vader (aka Tallulah) led the women finishing 5th, followed by Nina in 7th, Elisa in 8th, Ileana in 9th, and Aubrey in 11th. Molly Mistr took 4th in women's B XC.
