The Warren Wilson College Mountain Bike Team competed again at Lees
McRae College, however, this race was a dual conference race hosted by
Appalachian State. With the deepest and most competitive field so far
this week the team was lead by Becca Parish's 2nd place finish in Dual Slalom
(DS), Nina Otter's 5th place finish in Cross Country (XC), and Linden Blaisus' 7th
place finish in Short Track (STXC).
The past week of rain and mud was not enough to keep the Fighting Owls from flying in some great finishes. The Downhill race was cancelled for fear of destroying App States new DH track, but the rest of the events proved muddy and fun.
Saturday's XC race was 44 racers deep and on the same steep, fast, technical trail that placed high in the chronicles of gnar-gnarnia last weekend. Linden finished strong in 11th place followed by Alec in 28th and Arlo in 36th. Nina Otter peddled her way in to a 5th place finish, followed by Becca in 7th, Tallulah (Darth Vader, Vader for short) in 9th, Elisa in 11th and Ileana in 12th.
The Dual Slalom race was a little wetter than last weekend's but still fast and very competitive. Linden finished 36th and Alec coming in 52nd. Becca stepped up her awesome 3rd place finish from last weekend and took 2nd to last year's National Champion. Ileana took 5th, followed by Nina in 7th, Elisa in 11th, and Tallulah (Vader) in 12th.
For Short Track we witnessed some powerful oxygen deprived finishes. Linden taking 7th, Alec 15th, and Arlo 20th. Nina led the women with a 6th place finish, followed by Ileana in 10th, Becca in 11th, and Elisa in 12th.
Next weekend is in Brevard NC, for our second to last conference race. Hope you can all can make it out to watch the action. Check out the Conference Website at http://collegiatecycling.org/seccc/.
